Burgundy & Beaujolais Wine Tour
Join me for 7 days - 6 nights of glorious gastronomic indulgence, incomparable wines & backroads beauty - 30 September - 6 October
This is a bit of a departure from my postings about Paris and Paris Wine Walks, but the foundation for everything I do stems from the wine and gastronomic tours I’ve been leading throughout France for over 30 years.
It’s never too late to live your dream and this tour is a dream. Embark on an unforgettable journey through the picturesque vineyards of Burgundy & Beaujolais, where each sip unveils the rich history and exquisite craftsmanship of these regions' renowned wines.
Join us for an extraordinary wine tour curated with a blend of personal connections and years of firsthand experience, promising an exclusive and intimate exploration of some of the finest estates. We will lead you to hidden gems, introducing you to winemakers whose stories echo through the grapevines.
Enjoy private tastings that delve beyond the labels, uncovering the nuances of terroir and the meticulous artistry that transforms each bottle into a masterpiece.
Immerse yourself in the culture and the 'climats', creating memories that persist with every lingering note of Burgundy & Beaujolais wines, leaving you with a profound appreciation for the unparalleled beauty and complexity of these renowned winemaking regions.
For wine lovers throughout the world, Burgundy is an Eldorado with some of the finest wines to be found anywhere in the world. And Beaujolais, although often confused in many people’s minds with Beaujolais Nouveau, has some of the greatest value-for-money quality wines in the world, as well as having some of the most magnificent vineyard-scapes. It is here that ‘natural wine’ began, and that desire for authenticity and purity of expression lives on.
Discovering these two iconic regions in a single tour is an opportunity not to be missed. Starting in Paris, we travel to the Auxerrois and Chablis for our first visit and tasting. A visit to the world famous Clos de Vougeot, headquarters of the Chevaliers du Tastevin, grounds us in the terroir of the Côte d’Or. The next three nights are in Beaune in the sumptuous comfort of a five-star hotel with a fine selection of bistro and gourmet restaurants. Tastings have been selected for their quality, originality and diversity so as to provide the most complete overview of the region.
Leaving Beaune, we travel through the Maconnais, stopping for a tasting en route to our five-star hotel located in a 13th century castle. On average, we have two tastings a day and following our tasting in the Maconnais, we will experience our first Beaujolais tasting before reaching our fairytale castle.
The days that follow include a mix of rustic, country-bistro style restaurants and gastronomic treasures, with privileged tastings with the greatest wine producers of the region. Our last day takes us to the picturesque medieval village of Perouges for lunch before drop-off in Lyon, the culinary capital of France.
On a personal note, it was a Burgundian wine that changed my life. I was nineteen years old and in France for the first time. I had tasted quite a lot of ‘good’ wines (as well as some pretty horrific ones) but the 1966 Chambolle Musigny served at a lunch in the countryside outside of Paris completely blew my mind. I had never tasted anything quite so intoxicating. The nose alone sent me into raptures and the flavours that swirled about in my mouth were so deep and complex I was speechless. This was instant affirmation that all the hyperbole around great wines was true, which up until that moment, I thought to be exaggerated and quite untrue.
There’s still time to join me on this exceptional Burgundy Beaujolais wine tour to find your own wine epiphany, so don’t hesitate to contact me for full details.

My book, ‘The Hidden Vineyards of Paris’ (reviewed in Jancis Robinson’s wine blog, the Wine Economist, National Geographic Traveler UK, UK Telegraph) is also available at ‘The Red Wheelbarrow Bookshop’ at 11 rue de Medicis, 75006 Paris. If you haven’t yet discovered this gem of a bookshop, now’s your chance. Open every day!
