By the time this is posted, I’ll be back in Paris and on Paris time - as far as Substack posting is concerned. The business of readjusting to a 9 hour time difference on the other hand will take more time. But I’ll not be making that adjustment in a relaxed and gentle manner, but hitting the ground running as they say, and so the temptation of surrendering to what the body wants will have to be ignored.
There are back-to-back wine walks starting the day after I arrive, highly acclaimed books to sell, and quite a lot of domestic pleasantries to address. There is also a book event at Le Centre Culturel with Alice Feiring, who is renowned internationally for her books on natural wine. Alice states: “The topic—I’m not sure why, but why not—will be the spectacle of Robert Parker and how a new wine force emerged, in spite of or because of the famed critic.”
I intend to be there as I’ve not seen Alice since a dinner we shared with my friend Matthew Rose years ago, who is an artist, also living in Paris.
I’m writing from the Vancouver airport, and as I’m about to board my plane, this is going to be much shorter than usual.
So here’s a poem I found randomly on the Internet that seems to have no author:
Roses are red, Wine is also red, Poems are hard wine
